It’s official. I’ve linked up with GoPro and Taylor Guitars for a trip and project of a lifetime.

From November 4th to March 3rd, my wife Sarah and I will be embarking on a journey to Southeast Asia: Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, Myanmar, Malaysia, Singapore, Sri Lanka… The plan is to get away, explore parts of the world unknown to us, give back when possible, get inspired, and come back with a bunch of new songs. But I couldn’t help but think- “how can I turn this into something more?"

It started with an idea.. What can I do to combine two of my very favorite things to do on this planet- traveling and music - while continuing to grow my music business and develop the story and creative angle to “Tolan Shaw: Singer/Songwriter.”

The idea came in the form of a new project: “Wandersong” - a series of short videos, photos, new songs, and other content that “follows the travels and inspiration of a hungry singer-songwriter.” I wrote up an outline, a concept, and a one sheet detailing the goal, what it would entail, why, and how I was going to execute the project. I had no expectations, but thought “who knows, somebody might want to get on board with this, right?”

I took it first to my good friend Tim Godwin at Taylor Guitars. We sat over a plate of BBQ as I told him my idea, and he immediately lit up and loved it. We brainstormed a bunch of creative ideas together on how to make it even more awesome, and Taylor set me up with a brand new GS Mini travel guitar (IMO the biggest sounding travel guitar out there) for the travels, songwriting, and videos. Then he brought up GoPro…

Turns out GoPro is beginning to delve into music a bit more and is in need of really cool content for their music channels and outlets. Tim pitched “Wandersong” to the folks at GoPro, and lo and behold, they latched on.

After a talk with the creative folks at GoPro, they set me up with a couple GoPro cameras and some mounts/accessories to utilize on the trip. GoPro wants to use the raw, unedited footage of my travel and music experiences to edit and create content for potential use on their website, youtube channel, and social media... and between GoPro and Taylor’s web/social media presence, that could mean some pretty huge exposure.

Needless to say, I am blown away at the timing and luck and seemingly perfect alignment of the stars with this whole thing. I’m feeling really fortunate to be able to go explore the world, while keeping momentum and productivity in both the creative and business sides of my music.

If you are interested, I urge you to follow along on Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter, and at www.tolanshaw.com- I’ll also be creating edits of videos and photos myself to post and update fans and followers along the way.

See you guys in March, 2016. Asia, I’m coming for you.

"Best Pop Album" at the SD Music Awards!

Wow! I'm honored to win "Best Pop Album" at this year's SD Music Awards. Truthfully, it's not really even about winning an award, it's about being recognized for putting in hard work alongside all of the other amazing nominees. My model for navigating this career choice/business has always been to focus on the music and creative side, to work my ass off 100% towards that which I am passionate about, to give back when I can, and to try to deal with relationships and business in the most honest and respectful way possible. Being recognized in any way big or small in that process is always so appreciated. I want to thank each of you friends and fans for following along on this journey, for supporting, for coming to shows and listening to recorded music, and for being engaged and amazing people- and really just for caring. I have some pretty lofty goals, and it means the world to me to have you guys to help motivate me towards those goals and to keep me afloat. Congrats to all the other winners and nominees. Happy heart!
